Dejvická 006

Well for the past two days Prague 6 (that is the district of Prague I live in) used the Czech Technical University's 350th anniversary and the VE Day holiday as an excuse for a street party. I found out about it after the street party had began late last evening, so since I was already going out for the evening, I stopped by to catch the last act of the evening. The last act was the group, Čechomor, who was the main focus of Sunday's program. The Czech band takes Bohemian and Moraian weddng dances and folk music and adds their own twist to it, as the article said they breath raucous new life into timeless tunes. The band has an augment of rock insturments sucha as guitar and drums (but no bass) with more traditional instruments such as madnolin, accordion and the Czech bagpipes. I really enjoyed the group a lot, and will be looking for some cds to take home with me of their music (although it most likely will all be in Czech like it was last night, I don't mind, I like the sound of the group).

Today there was a performance by the National Theatre Orchestra (Orchestr Národního divadla), featuring soloists Eva Urbanová, Yvona Škvárová, Aleš Briscein, and Vratislav Kriz and also Katerina Englichova on the harp. It started out as a sunny and warm at the start of the concert, but midway through it got dark and you could hear rumbling in the distance. I was surprised that they continued the concert, even after rain started to spit a bit on us. By the end of the preformance, it had cleared up and the sun peaked out from behind the dark rain clouds. Good thing they didn't stop. The Program they played consisted of various pieces of music, I really enjoyed it all, and am glad I made a trip down to it this afternoon.
